After starting the season 5–0, the Chicago Bulls have slowed down slightly and now sit at 6–4. The question is whether that hot start was simply a good run at the beginning of a mediocre season, or if this team can continue to surprise everyone and have an unexpectedly strong year.
The Giddey Effect
To understand why the Bulls have been winning, we only need to look at their main man, Josh Giddey. He has been outstanding so far, averaging 21.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game. That is nearly a triple-double every night.
It seems that watching his former team win a championship has motivated him even more. Giddey looks sharper, more aggressive and more confident than ever before. He is contributing in every area, even defensively, where he is averaging just under a steal per game. If he continues this form, he should be a certain All-Star and perhaps even earn a starting role.
A True Team Effort
However, it’s not just about Giddey. The entire squad has contributed to the Bulls’ early success, with six players averaging double figures in points per game. This was evident in their close loss to the San Antonio Spurs last night, even without their star, Giddey. This sesson, Nikola Vučević is nearing his usual double-double averages, while Matas Buzelis has shown promising signs of improvement and potential.
The addition of Isaac Okoro has also been a clever move, giving the Bulls a strong perimeter defender who can take on the opposition’s best scorers each night.
The East Is Wide Open
With the Pacers, Celtics, and Bucks all struggling in various ways this season, the path to the Eastern Conference Finals looks more open than it has been in years. The Bulls are not favourites, but if they can build consistency, they have a genuine opportunity to make a deep run.
Experience Will Be Key
Of course, this team is still very young and lacks significant playoff experience. Teams such as the Cavaliers and 76ers are further along in their development and are currently stronger overall. Even so, this could be a pivotal season for the Bulls.
A solid playoff run would not only give the team valuable experience but also show that they are heading in the right direction. If Giddey maintains this level and players like Buzelis continue to develop, Chicago could soon become a real threat in the Eastern Conference.
